Launching AD47...
June 2015 - In early June, Akeem announced the launch of the Inaugural AD47 Football Leadership Academy. The AD47 is a free, one-day skills camp, focusing on leadership, citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. It will be held on Saturday, June 20th at Laurel High School and will be free for Laurel-area children, ages 8-12. "You can't always give back, but you can pay it forward...this was my chance." Off-Season Workouts...
May 2015 - After a long, cold DC winter, spring has finally arrived and that means official off-season team workouts have resumed in Ashburn, VA. Akeem stayed in town this winter so he could work out at the team facility every day. As new faces arrive following free agency and the Draft, Akeem and the guys are focused on the season ahead. As Akeem says, "the success you find in the post-season is determined by the work you do in the pre-season."
Visiting the Troops...
May 2015 - On a Friday afternoon in Early May, Akeem had lunch and made a surprise troop visit at Walter Reed Army Hospital, in Bethesda, Maryland. He spent time with a packed USO mess hall of service men and women, before touring the PT and OT units at the Warrior Care Facility. Afterwards, Akeem spent time with a group of cancer patients in various stages of therapy and recovery. "That might've been the most meaningful four hours of my life" he said.
The Meaning of HTTR...
January 2015 - To Redskins fans, HTTR means Hail To The Redskins. The team has a loyal fanbase in the DC, MD, VA region and around the world, so it's important to support those who support you throughout the season. Akeem has been active in Redskins community outreach events and fan engagement. "From high school to college to the pros, I've always wanted to feel connected to the fans. At the end of the day: no fans no team, no team no game."
The UK Embassy...
May 2015 - In early May, Akeem attended an elegant evening of cocktails, culture, and bespoke tailoring at the invitation of Sir Peter Westmacott, British Ambassador to the United States. The event celebrated the historic evolution of hand-tailored British suiting and the fabled Savile Row collection of brands--such as Huntsman, Kinsman and others--which have suited everyone from the King of England to Winston Churchill to American Presidents.
For The Troops...
November 2014 - As the holiday season approached, Akeem joined a group of Redskins and Olympic swimmer Kate Ziegler for a USO telethon at WUSA 9. For three hours, they answered phones and took financial pledges from areas residents, which provided turkeys, toys, and clothes to needy military familiies during the holidays. "I was raised to give back. Period. When it comes to the military, we have a heightened obligation to take care of our own."
